I ran to the store last week, and might I say the contour was looking good. As I was coming back from the store across the parking lot, I see somebody checking my car out. As I approach he says "Nice car, what is it an escort?". I told him it was contour svt, he had never heard of that. So, what's the worst car for you?

One thing I decided to do after that is get the sail panels changed out and I'm working on stickers to cover the ford emblems on the front and back. I'm putting svt over those. Then most want even know what brand.

Omg confuse an contour with escort what blasphemy

My girlfriend often call my Mondeo "the ship" or "the flagship"

I've been asked if my SVT is an Escort before which is pretty bad... but the worst was when someone asked if it was a Tempo.

On the flip side, i had a Mercedes CL430 driver roll up at a stop light and ask if i wanted to trade. LOL. For the record, my other car is a E39 BMW M5 and the SVT gets WAY more looks and questions from other drivers.

i'm not sure what the series of words my wife used. but one night she honestly hurt my feeling to the bone. Then she realized I took the car serious and know she tries to be a little bit more supportive.

-Escort
-Contour
-Taurus
-MKIV Jetta
-Saab (they never specify a model)

Those are they five most common ones, nobody EVER knows what my car is. If it's not one of the five above listed names, they typically have no idea what it is. For the record, I no longer have a Contour, I drive a 2006 Focus ST.

did you ever think someone with an escort might be upset someone asked about their contour/mondeo? It's all about frame of reference.

I didn't remember it until I looked through the old threads, but a high school classmate called it piece of sh*t Kia.........

I've never seen anything remotely close to an Escort that looks like that around here. And it's not like I don't go to shows and the tracks in this area. I have seen some sharp SHO's ,SVT Contours and Foci. I actually had a Merkur that was pretty sweet back in the late 80's. I've seen a Fairmont wagon that I'd love to have but no Escorts that look like that.

The Escort Cosworth was an Escort body on a shortened YB-powered Sierra 4x4 chassis. I'm surprised a former Merkur owner doesn't recognize it. The cars never made it over here from the factory.

Oh, I knew exactly what it was, I just have never seen one in person. I thought a few made it into the U.S via the underground market though. I have seen an xr4ti with all the cosworth stuff on it. SWEEEEEEEEEET!

my cougar has been called an eclipse, probe. i personally get jaguar a lot (debadged with a jag looking cat on the side). Someone at nationals last year at first mistook it for a BMW some how.

Most dont know because of the lack of badges, the limited run, and what ive done to it

My 3000GT has been called a Probe, Eclipse, Camaro, and even Ferrari once. there is nothing that actually says Mitsubishi 3000GT anymore, just the 3-diamond logo on the front and rear.

It's funny to me when "car bros" actually don't know anything about cars but insist on keeping up the front. I was talking to a dude with an infiniti on rimzzz about Merkur's and he said
"oh yeah, I remember those. They made scooters and other stuff too right?"
"No, pretty sure just two cars, xr4ti and scorpio, imported fords from europe. Maybe it's a different company. Like the merkur shaving razor company"
"nope, they definitely made more stuff than that, like scooters"

You're right dude, what do I know. I'm probably the only person you've ever met that owns one and have already recited more info than anyone has ever cared to hear about them. Yes, scooters.

I call my car worst names then anything in here. This is civil, I've made up swear words cuz of this heap.
