Thread: El Cheapo Catalytic Converter Test for the Zetec 2.0 L 4 cylinder

  1. Default El Cheapo Catalytic Converter Test for the Zetec 2.0 L 4 cylinder

    1) Disconnect negative terminal battery (note you will lose all CEL codes stored in the PCM memory)

    2) Disconnect Upper O2 sensor connector

    3) Remove Upper O2 sensor (use 7/8 inch or 22 mm crescent wrench or O2 sensor removal tool).

    4) Install heat shield where the O2 sensor hole is. The hot exhaust might melt some rubber hoses or wires near it. Victor Exhaust Muffler Repair kits have heat shield.

    4) Reconnect battery and drive.

What you are doing is give the exhaust an outlet. If car performs better, you probably have a plugged catalytic converter.

All posted in the old forums. I just moved them over rather than link them. Just in case, we lose the old forums or someone's computer can't handle the memory overload.
