I can't believe she's gone. I dont' kno whow long I will wake up early in the morning to let her out. I keep feeling the urge to find her and take her outside to go pee every few hours. I always took a peek to see what she was doing if i wasn't in the room with her. I still have that urge too even though she isn't there.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Definitely a beautiful dog. I've lost a couple dogs through my life as well.. definitely rough times. I feel for you. Just know that 16yrs is most definitely a dog who has lived a good life and that she must have had a good friend who took care of her to have lived that long. There was nothing you could have done to prevent what happened and while I know you wished you could have spent that last night with her... just remember the 16 years that you were able to spend with her. You made the right decision no question, don't beat yourself over it.

I totally understand how you feel. Ive grown up with dogs all my life and have delt with the good and the bad. It's one of the worst feelings in the entire world.

if she liked to run and chase rabbits then let her run and chase rabbits. Don't put her in the ground.

Sorry, but fwiw, I know exactly how you feel.

7 years ago, this thread wouldn't have bothered me much at all. I had a couple dogs when I lived at home, but never had a connection with one. When I got married, my wife had never had a dog, but wanted a black lab. We got Zoe in September of 2005. Now I can't imagine life without her. Gets me teary even thinking about loosing her. She's great with my kids, and is certainly part of the family. I see why people go from one dog to another... partly to take your mind off of it, and partly to fill that void!
My thoughts are with you man!

Sorry for your loss. The most important thing you did was give her a good life and when she was in a lot of pain, you did the right thing and let her go. She's in a better place now and pain free. Better that she was comfortable.

I had to make the same decision with my cat of 13 years this February. Looking back on it, I'm glad I chose the way that I did. Better that he wasn't suffering.

I'm sorry for your loss man. I lost my yellow Lab Kody last month. He was 15 years old. His back legs went out over night and I am happy he is no longer in pain.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost my share of pets in my life from old age. 4 cats, 2 dogs. It broke my heart every time. Like it was said, finding a new "friend" when the time is right will help fill the void, although every pet lover knows they can never be replaced.
