Well, on my way home from eating supper, and minding my own business. I pass a sheriff and think nothing of it till he hits on his lights and turns around in the middle of the road. I keep on driving, till i get to a district building about a thousand feet away. I pull in and of course its me that he is after :p.

Luckily i put on my seat belt after i passed him. He comes up to the car and asks me if i know why i pulled him over. He goes going 76 in a 55. I was like..figures. I tend to have a lead foot, and not paying attention usually does the trick. So he asks me if i have a cell phone, and i said yes. He asks me to call my mom, because now its procedure to call parents of people under the age of 18. So i call her and she talks to him for a bit. He comes back and gives me back my insurance card and registration. Goes into his cruiser for 5 minutes, and then comes back out.

When he comes back he says, "Well, i talked to your mom and everything. You have a clean driving record, so thats a good thing. I don't want you to have to pay for a speeding ticket and i really don't want you to lose your license. So I am going to let you go with a warning." I was relieved at that point, and i continued to thank him. Before he left, he goes "By the way, thats the fastest i have seen a small car like that go that fast, and in a perfectly straight line." I was shocked and started chuckling.

Oh, obvious troll is obvious.

I remember having a sheriff point at me when he had someone pulled over and I past him doing 70 75 back when I was young and foolish and my renault (amc) encore maxed out at 94

well thankfully I grew up and learned about cruise control.... has saved my butt more than once....

Most cops set there radar at 81+ mph. So i was told :)

0-4 is no points on the eway and 5-9mph is 1 point.

So they wait for the 10+ mph people to bust them. This is what my uncle told me and he works for the Michigan state police.

So far...no points i set the cruise at 78 +- on my commute and call it a day. Never got pulled over. And trust me these is years of driving :)

I'm really surprised this hasn't been locked for stupidity.

You speed (not saying I don't), you pay the price. And not wearing your seatbelt is just plain stupid.

lol. ^^^^^ loosen up a bit!

anyway,
my father was a wayne county sheriff and he said that was pretty much the unspoken rule - "5 over your fine - 10 over your mine"

Usually you have to go over 9 over the limit. 1-9over isn't a large fine for most cities plus they have to leave margin for error of reading. CC is your friend though. I have gotten out of an 86 in a 60 before.

start wearing your seatbelt!

I need to, but it doesn't cross my mind when i get in the car.

What are you talking about locked for stupidity? I was just telling a story, no need to be a prick about it. I know if i speed i pay the price, did i ever state any different? Why should i have to wear my seat belt?

Sounds about right... My only speeding ticket was in Royal Oak on 696.. Had me doing 82.. :( When they ask the obvious question of "do you know how fast you were going" I said I wasn't sure I wasn't paying much attention (just got done losing in the Championship game for Mens Adult Hockey).. He said 82.. Then asked the even more obvious question, "Do you know what the speed limit is?".. I replied, "hopefully 82.. ?"

All cruise control for me now </3

Escort 8500 X50 has been saving me for years. Although it seems like they are using laser on the highways all of the time now.

It's the law:shrug:

Harry,

Only if you get pulled over by the State Police. Every local department has different fines/point assesment. You don't always get pulled over on the highway by the state police. A 5 or 6 over could net you 2-3 points depending on the department that nabs you.

True and BTW, Indiana tunpike has the same fines for 0-29 over with a speed limit of 70mph. I know this because I was 2 under that cutoff and thought I'd have a huge fine---a nice surprise :)
