Thread: HVAC face flaking

    Default HVAC face flaking

I just got my car detailed last week, and I noticed that the face of the HVAC controls on my SVT have some light spots on the black (stock) and in one spot, the light spot appears to have flaked off. Question is, is this residue from the cleaning materials or a thin plastic coating on the control face? I'd get some simple green and scrub it off if if's just residue but if it's a protective coating, I probably don't want to destroy what's left.

    Opinions?

    Thanks,

If it is external, sometime simple will wipe it off. If it is internal, you'll have to replace it. Grab an extra one from a junkyard for cheap. <$10

So, will the face fade or the black come off if I take off the plastic coating? There aren't any junkyards around me to go search for a replacement. Nor do I have much time, unfortunately, to go searching...

    Thanks,

On my 96, I got bored one day and was tired of looking at the flakes, so I scraped as much off as I could get to...

Looked a lot better w/o that flaking stuff!
