key fob question...can you use different styles?

I found all the threads on how to program the fobs etc. but I never saw anything on styles. I have about 5 Focus Key fobs and was going to use one for the contour. I tried to program it and nothing. Is it a different frequency or something? The battery could be dead I have no idea, but I'm wondering if you can use the newer style fobs with the contours or if I have to get an old one. If I have to get an old one does frequency matter on that also or are they all the same? Thanks

yes there are different style remotes. I believe someone has used a 3 button remote. All of the numbers on the back of the remote have to match the original for it to work.

you have to get what ever remote has the same numbers on the back as I have posted ..... at least that is my understanding.

I have heard of one cougar owner using the Jag flip key. however I don't recall if they got the build in keyless entry in the key to work.
