I have a 96 Contour GL with the 4cyl. I was getting 171 codes. The last time I got them I swapped the O2 sensors. I changed them again, but the code came back. I changed them last weekend.
Yesterday we drove to a store. On leaving the store to drive home I started the engine normally. As I was backing out the engine quit. It didn't want to catch again, but after cranking for about 10 seconds it started. When I went to back out it died again. Same routine. This time it stayed running.
The check engine light is out and I have not tried to look for codes so I'm not sure if the light is about to come on again or not.
So I am trying to figure out what to look at next. I have about 40k on the fuel filter. Could this be caused by a clogging filter? Wouldn't I get a low pressure or flow error?
