Default Intermittent Speedo - Ultimate Thread

So I'm driving to work the other day and my speedo drops to zero, and the low fuel light comes on for a second. Driving home, it started off dead, then came alive, then died, came alive and repeated twice and has worked fine ever since. Yea, I did all the searching I can on here: suggested solutions, bonafide solutions, swear-by's and witchcraft have resulted in the following possible "fixes":
    • New VSS sensor
    • Replug the cluster harness connector on the right-hand side
    • Turn signal fuse
    • Intermittent ground somewhere
    • New cluster
    • New neutral safety switch
So....... I'm living with it right now since it's working fine again. Oh, and a good sharp Fonzie to the dash didn't correct it while driving, but small road bumps seemed to. Go figure.

I'm going to start with cleaning and reconnecting the cluster harness first, as it seems "likeliest" to me. But I sure would like other recommendations or offer's of pixie dust.

While I was driving my car died and speedo dropped, rpm dropped, and wouldnt restart. It turned out to be the vss sensor, the wires were all cracked and wires were crossing blowing a fuse, everytime i turned the key to start position. Maybe your vss sensor is intermittently crossing wires. Just something to check out.

Yea, mine drove along fine, so I don't think it's anything that actually goes to the engine computer and is used in engine speed control. It didn't even hiccup or burp as I was driving. Just tooled right along fine.
