Thread: Dumb grille question

    Default Dumb grille question

I found a Contour SE in a local scrapyard with various front end pieces that I need and I have a question about the grille.

Does the SVT have a different grille or emblem than a run of the mill Contour? Mine is missing the emblem, so I have no idea what was there originally. If they are the same, I'll snag it.

    Thanks!

No they are different. The SE grille has horizontal bars, the SVT is a mesh pattern, both have the Ford oval centered.

    Sorry I don't have a pic of a non-SVT grille handy.

Ah, ok. Then someone put an SE grille in this before I bought it. I'm guessing the gauge cluster too, since mine only goes to 130. And before anyone says it - yes, mine is a genuine SVT, it's just had some really horrible and quarter-assed repairs before I came to own it.

Thanks for the info guys. Up until this point, I was under the impression that the only difference in the grille might have been a SVT badge in the center, and a blue oval on the other models.

No problem. So they took the white faced gauges out and put the black ones in?

Well, I didn't know the difference in the gauges either, but let me tell you what I did... I found the donor car during my lunch break Monday, so I was a bit rushed. I was off today and went back to steal the trunk lid and a couple other goodies. This time I carefully inspected the car front to back, top to bottom. The decals on the trunk lid said "Contour Sport". The gauge cluster in the donor is identical to the one in my SVT. White digits/marks on black. The videos I've seen on youtube of idiots doing 140 on the freeway all had gauges that went up to somewhere around 150/160. Both mine and the donor go to 130.

Yeah it doesn't sound like you have an SVT cluster by any means, heres a shot of mine. Let me know if there's anything else I can get pictures of that will help you compare what else may have been changed.

Sorry about the long delay. Thanks for the pics, but I refer you to this thread: http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showth...cal-scrap-yard

Now I have one to eyeball side by side with mine.

That's a crazy find, so if I read that correctly, the body\interior\engine\trans are all in good shape? Shoot I wouldn't use that has a parts car. If they have the title you could probably either use it as a DD or sell it for a decent profit. Just saying.
