Does anyone know if the Pre98 Zetecs had the plastic impellars or the metal impellars for the water pump? i know later Zetecs had Plastic.

Plastic. They don't break though. Well, the impellers anyway.

alright, cuz i did my brothers on his focus when he got it (didnt think it needed it but i did it anyways) and the impellar was busted up pretty bad. I know ours have a different design. Should i do it while i'm in there doing the belt, or wait till i have a problem?

I prefer to replace it while doing the timing belt since you have already done all the work to get to it. of course there is always the "if it ain't broke dont fix it" mentality as well.

That's kinda what i was thinking (if it aint broke done fix it) All you have to do is remove the belt and timing cover to get the water pump out. I do have a replacement water pump, but i might just wait for now. I just had a coolant flush less than a year ago.

You also have to take the timing belt off to get the pump out.

You can do a 98+ w/o taking the belt off. Pre98 requires the removal of the belt. Honestly it is a toss up. The gaskets are known to fail, but if you haven't had a problem, ehhhh....
