the new sho makes an appearance

I find it very hard to believe that somebody would buy one of these and put a bunch of money into modding it. I see this as ending up in the hands of the 40 year old father of two who whats his DD to have a little more pep. It just seems like to much car to do anything on a track or autox course.

Lots of younger people buy older SHOs and contours. I am only 28 and I would buy one and probably put a lot of money and time into modding. Granted I am a father of 2 with a third on the way. Cant afford one though, and with me being in college right now I dont think I will be buying a new car for some years to come.

I actually had something along those lines in my post but edited it out. I was basically trying to say that the old SHOs and even SVTs now are getting picked up by people because they're cheap and decently easy to mod. I would dare to say that more than half of the people who would have interest in a car like this, wouldn't be able to even afford the payment on one. It's a mere pipe dream for them.

yeah I agree, heck I am going into teaching when I am done with college, so if an average teacher around here starts at $35-40k, then I think it will be a couple years before I can afford a used one.

I think thats exactly right. Just because people sign up on a mailing list or say hey thats a neat idea doesnt mean they're actually potential buyers. I mean look at the Volt "list" that GM got so excited about. Ask those people to head down to the dealership and sign papers on a $40k car and you'll hear a lot of excuses. The people who will actually buy this car probably arent the ones on the message boards singing about how happy they are to see the SHO come back.

yes I am sure you drove it over a scale and weighed it and proved GM wrong. I would have written a strongly worded letter to them for improperly rating their vehicle in figures they send to NHTSA and DOT.

Plus now days, ALL CARS ARE HEAVIER. Seriously a new SVT focus weighs more than a 20 year old ford taurus. My Escort GT weighed 1950 lbs on the truck scale at the farm. Can you find a new car today that weighs that? Those same trucks and SUVs you were talking about earlier weigh far north of 5000 lbs now. A new silverado with NO options, short bed, standard cab, V6 2wd is the lightest you can get with them and that weighs in at 4,453.
BTW short bed regular cab v8 2wd AUTO weighs 4,227 with an empty gas tank. they only dip under 4200 lbs if you have a 5speed. Even a new mustang weighs in at 3,483 lbs. Cars are just heavier these days. A new mustang weighs twice what they originally weighed. Now days COMPACT cars are over 3000 lbs.

i just want to know where people are getting their info about th eweight of the SHO as ford does not list a curb weight for the car. atleast that i can find.

the only gauges to go by are the 500, which is about 3650 and the s80 which is 3800.

considering my R is like 3400 with an almost unusable back seat...i don't think that's horrible. but i don't know where these assumptions of ~4300lbs are coming from.

I've been wondering the same thing. A loaded Taurus Limited weighs 3800 so theres about 500 pounds to explain.

I never said the car weighed around 4300 lbs, I said that I heard it was supposed to come in under 4200 lbs. A 2009 taurus in AWD trim is 3930 lbs so you can expect the SHO to come in somwhere over that. I doubt they will add more than 200 lbs to the weight between the 2009 model and 2010

Smart Fortwo- 1600-1800 lbs. :p

a car that fits more than a single passenger

Well, the 2009 MKS weighs a tick over 4300 with the AWD and V6. So I'm assuming it's going to be in that ballpark.

Well, I will go as far to say as the new Taurus interior probably does add a great deal of weight to it.

ANYTHING would be an improvement over the past interiors though.

Preach it!

Preach it!

yeah, so the F what if it's a taurus. Get the name brand bull:censored::censored::censored::censored: out of your head and look at what you are getting for your money. Isn't that why we drive ford contours in the first place? Bang for your buck and we don't care about image?(which is poor in the eyes of everyone else in the US) Grow up peter pan! Count chocula!

I'f I'm paying 38k, I WANT as much stuff as I can get for it, I don't want a base model luxury vehicle.

driving > douchey image portrayal

I couldn't have said it better! I'm not any more impressed with "German Engineering", "Japanese Engineering", etc, then what American companys can do when they actually want to!! When Ford wants to stack up to ,or even beat the competion, they can! They sell what they think the people want, not just us either, all over the world!
I would definetly buy the SHO if I had the money and was in the market for a larger Sedan then my Contour. I bought my Contour SVT becouse I have a small family and I'm an "American Made" kind of guy. More of us sould be that way!!

I'm an "American Made" kinda guy myself but that doesnt mean I'm gonna spend much extra to buy American unless its also better than other the offerings.
