Hello all, this is my first post here, i recently bought a 1999 SVT Contour to be my daily driver and keep some miles off my Lightning. Well when i got it, it needed some serious maintmance, it has 160,000 miles but i got i for 2500 bucks. The biggest problem is the reverse lights wont turn on. So i came here and checked fuse 23 and it was fine, the found out about the sensor on the transaxle. So i took off my intake and see the brown box everyones talking about, only there are no wires connected to it. I looked all over the engine bay and couldnt find the connector. I have a feeling im up the creek but any help would be great. I need it to pass texas state inspection and i dont think it will without reverse lights.

It sounds stupid, but check the inside of the trunk lid and see if the lights are connected to the harnesses.
They were disconnected when I bought my SVT (the previous owner had forgotten to reconnect them after doing a mod).

I checked and everything is connected, i bought new bulbs, and cleaned the connectors before i noticed the missing connector under the hood. Id assume thats the problems, thanks tho

Welcome.

If the "box" is there (with its connector) and the other end is missing, just splice and run a new wire to the reverse wiring. If the "box" is missing its wires and connector, you need a new one. The reverse wiring should be in the bundle which you can see when you push down the driver's side rear seat. It is located near the bottom of the rear quarter panel.

Edit. Some wiring info from Autozonelink.

The brown box is there, it has nothing going into it, no loose wires/ connectors are present anywhere near it. If i was to run wires to it how would i make the connection to the wiring in the trunk?
