Thread: Democrats in 100% control of the country

  1. #1

Default Democrats in 100% control of the country

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...tical-parties/

When Al Franken finally gets seated, the D's will have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, a large majority of the House, and the Presidency. I'm a Liberal Democrat and would love to see the country shift to the left, BUT unchecked power like this scares me in the hands of any party. I was happy with 58 in the Senate because it was a strong majority but could still be stopped if it swung too extreme.

I'll be contacting my Dem. reps and urging them to vote how the people they represent would want them to vote and not blindly down party lines.

But still, there should be some balance. I don't want an all republican one or an all democratic one.

I didn't know that you could switch parties in the middle of a term. I understand he's up for re-election next year, but currently while he's in office does he still have to remain in the GOP?

"Despite the change in political stripes, Specter vowed to remain an independent voice in the Senate."

Why not just run as an Independent?

And does this make him sound like a pussy to anyone else???

"Specter has jumped ship faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and Pennsylvania trending Democratic."

So he's afraid to run against someone b/c they might beat him? That's the kinda guy I want in office
Some people are like Slinkies, ultimately useless, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

He's not obligated to vote any specific way. Is it really any different than if he called himself a Republican and then voted with the Dems most of the time?

Understood that he can vote either way, and IMO there are no true political parties anymore as most politicians seem to have their own agenda's and vote based on that.

I'm wondering how someone would feel that voted him in based on him be a republican and then he pulls the "syke card" and switches sides b/c he doesn't think he will be able to beat his next opponent. A lot of people are hardcore for their political parties.

If I understand correctly, repeat, if I understand correctly he is following his constituency as many of them have left the Republican party in Pennsylvania.
He stated that the party was turning to conservative for him.

True on both parts. It seems like they vote by party on a lot of things but they all have their agendas they're working on at the same time.
