Thread: Passenger Side Wheel Rubbing Issue

  1. Exclamation Passenger Side Wheel Rubbing Issue

Hi, I hope that someone can help me determine what the issue is. My passenger side wheel rubs when I turn my wheel all the way to the right (hard right) to park or a U turn. I am unsure what is causing the rubbing. The size of the tires are 205/60R15 and it is the correct size. My driver side doesn't rub on a hard right or left. Any thoughts why it is rubbing? 2000 SE V6 Contour. Also, if I turn my steering wheel all the way left or right, I hear a sharp noise which sound somewhat like a grinding noise. What could that be. It's a different grinding noise compared to if you accidentally grind while shifting. It's not as forceful and a constant noise. Please help me. Thank you.

are you sure the wheel is actually rubbing? most if not all powersteering pumps/racks make noise if held against the stop ... point is don't crank the wheel over and hold it against the stop ... might change the fluid for good measure

I am pretty sure since it sounds like rubber rubbing. The other grinding noise may be because of the wheel stop. Haven't changed the steering fluid and it has about 70k on it. Maybe I should. I don't try to turn the wheel all the way left or right, but when pulling into a narrow parking spot like in the airport lot or a U turn, you can't avoid it. Thank you for helping. Any more insights? I am more concerned about the wheel rubbing. It seems that when I pull into a narrow parking spot, I wouldn't initially hear the wheel rubbing, but then I would hear it maybe a couple seconds later and then it would fade out and then in. Is my tire out of round? I just got all four balanced late September. Could it be the wheel well liner needs to be replaced?
