Thread: 2.5 V6 removal...

    Default 2.5 V6 removal...

For you guys who have removed and refitted a V6 in your 'tour, how long does it generally take?
I've been at my Mondeo for 4 hours and the engine is still in the car. I'm pulling the engine and tranny as one unit with the subframe and i'm having issues with the gear linkage and the hydraulics for the clutch.

You can pull the engine and trans as a unit out the top.

You can drop the engine and trans still connected to the subframe out the bottom.

There's no way you'll have fun if you try to get the subframe out the top.

Personally, I would just pull the engine and trans as one unit out the top. That way, you don't have to disconnect the AC, you just unbolt the compressor and tie it out of the way. The shifter linkage for the shift tower gets unbolted(I think it's one bolt) and you pry off the two clips that attach to the shift tower. The cluth line comes off of the slave(underneath the battery tray and on top of the tranny) by removing the little clip that holds it in place. Out the top is easy.

Don't know why anyone would drop the subframe just because of the power steering etc. Has to be easier out the top. Why are you having issues with clutch hydrolics? There is just a small pin that holds the line on the trans. Pop it off and the line is free to be moved out of the way.

The only issue was with my patience! The locking pin was a bit tight to remove due to some corrosion, and I was fresh from a fight with the cable shift linkage.
It's out now anyway. The main reason for removing the whole lot at once is lazyness really. I have 1 Mondeo with messy bodywork but good engine and sports suspension, and 1 Mondeo with a mint body but the engine is dead with a spun bearing.
I thought i'd just kill a few jobs in one by swapping the engine/trans/suspension in one go. Just doing it in my spare time but i'm halfway there. Learned some valuable lessons on the way too.

it's 2 bolts...hehe. But yea, it's pretty easy to remove the motor/trans from the top, just takes some time to disconnect everything.
