Default Another question, already searched for this one...........

I have a 98+ zetec, and all I ever see is ATX's, I don'[t think I've seen anybody with "98 MTX" in their sig or anything. First, did 98+s come with MTXs ever? If they did, would a swap be that hard from ATX? Wouldn't you just have to get the transmission monted, and switch to a 98+ PCM for MTX. IF they didn't ever come with MTXs, then how much harder would it be to swap in a pre98 MTX, I know the PCMs will be different because of the valve system differences between the years, but would there be any way around that? Would mystiques be any different, like did 98+ mistiques ever come in MTX?

I'm asking becase I love the zetec platform, its fun to drive, but I would prefer a MTX. I'm very mechanincal, so is my step dad, and we have a family friend who is a mechanic, so I'm sure we could figure this out. I just want to know if its actually possible in the first place.

Yes 98+ Zetecs did come with an MTX. in order to do an MTX swap you will need the subframe, PCM, trans, shifter and its base, shift cables, axles, and possibly the wiring harness

Another part you'd need, guage cluster, cause of the tach.

Tachs pretty much only came on mystiques and V6 Contours. the Contour Sport may have also come with a tach.

Yup, but good like finding one! Those are even more uncommon than MTX Contours! The funds just aren't worth it unless you find a CHEAPPP parts car.

most of the 4 cyl cougars were mtx, only 500 or so were atx, over the past 4 years only 3 or 4 have showed up on newcougar including mine.

That's not the point. Most Cougar's were V6.
