Thread: feedback!

    Angry feedback!

In the past week I have changed my mtx oil and installed a B&M short throw shifter. The fluid that came out was dark red... I used ford honey" mtx oil with about two oz. of xl-7 syn. friction modd. It seems like my shifting smoothness has decreased since the short throw and Motorcraft honey... Any feedback on this would be awsome! It has been getting colder... If that affects the mtx oil that dramatically, i dunno...

I saw a decrease of shift smoothness when I installed my B&M. The shifter felt more notchy but I liked the new feel.

shouldn't you use automatic tranny fluid + 2oz of the friction modifier??
i had my oil replaced at some shop and they put regular mtx fluid. it was sometimes hard to shift in first and reverse, and gears wouldn't jump out easily. then i flushed it, put mobil1 synth. automatic tran. oil and the frict. modifier and now it shifts like butter. huuuge difference. but i don't have the short shifter so i dunno if that maybe gives you trouble.

    Cool

8000rpm. Using atf + friction modd. is an option.. You can use what I used, royal purple syncromax, torco MTF, ATF+3/4... I think I might just eat the ford honey with xl-7 and order some Torco MTF. I really hate to do it but I would really would love not to have any tranny problems for a long time! Im only at 58K!! I wonder what the BEST fluid is tho. Still!! I read the never ending post from the old forum and what I got out of it was "motorcraft honey is the best with added friction moddifier. However Royal purple syncromax for the price (being a lot cheaper) is a worthy choice! Based on the price... ANY INPUT ON THIS IS AWSOME!

hmm. ok. right. but if you say its an option, it's not a bad thing that I did that mix, right? or not? i dunno. it works good now. i guess its your shifter. i red the other day somewhere in these (the new) forums that sometimes after you install a short shifter, it is necessary for adjustment of the shifter cables...i think it was. some people said they didn't have to do it, and others said that they had to be a little touched. meybe you should look into it. hope that helps.

    Cool hey

Using mobile 1 atf with friction moddifier has been known as the classic "cocktail" around cEG for a long time. I would like to imagine that its fine to use it. If your tranny is shifting as good as you say. Thats what we are after. I will have to try to dig up that post about the adjustments. Thanks for the reply!

When I installed the B&M STS, I had to adjust my cables a little. Not a lot as my adjustments on the stock shifter were a little skewed. I have always used the Castrol Synthetic ATF for my fluids. I have never had a bad synchro issue or lost a differential. This, like many things, can be debated til the bitter end. There are many good choices for fluids, it all depends on how and where you drive.

I think the RTF is thinner than the MTF, which may be better in cold weather.

Just something to think about. Let me know how it all goes BTW.

Hell, if you want cheap and available, use the Penzoil Syncromesh fluid based on the the same GM specs that the Royal Purple Syncromesh fluid is. Cheaper and available at Autozones... or I should say cheap enough to test out easily.
