Thread: replacing fluid/may fix problem?

  1. Default replacing fluid/may fix problem?

    hey guys,
alright well i live in arizona and now its starting to get colder, i just got my car like 2 months ago so everything is still new to me. well when i leave work at night or go to school in the mornings, its seems almost impossible to get into any gears, especially reverse. im pretty sure i am in need of a new clutch but i dont think thats the problem, well when the car finally warms up a tad, and after i move the stick around from first to 5th and all it finally free's up and lets me get into any gear i want, when driving, it gets difficult to downshift from 5th to 4th, or go from 2nd to 4th, but once the car is completly warmed up, there is no problem at all. My best guess its a fluid deal? i have 3 quarts of RP but have yet to put it in do you think that will do the trick?

also for changing the fluid, how do i go about doing that, do i just drain it and pick the front end up and let it sit there for a long time, or should i add some RP run it for a few minutes and drain again and refill, reason being i dont think its a good thing to have RP and good old ATF mixed together.. thx.

There is no problem with mixing what little ATF is left behind.

Try your Royal Purple and see what it does. Fluid with a hight content of friction modifier often resolves or at least greatly improves this problem. New ATF with it's fresh additives may enen help some for a while.
