Thread: Pre Upgrade to 3L

    Default Pre Upgrade to 3L

I've been reading the 3L section of the forums and looking at users rides and decideing on a 3L upgrade. I want to know everything I can before I start though, so I don't get started and end up being, oh crap, now what do I do. I want to be working on it and be like, now I know this goes here because otherwise it won't work, and this little trick here gets this done quicker and easier than some other method, etc, etc. I still have a lot of questions though that I still need answered if anyone could help.... Like,

When upgrading to the 3L what exactly do you take off the SVT motor and swap into the 3L? (Is it just the cams, oil pan, and some other parts?)

Does this vary by which motor you choose?

Which 3L motors are acceptable(like 99+ sable, xx year Taurus, etc, etc)

Do all connections from the 2.5 motor match the 3.L motor, or does it vary by the year or model of vehicle you pull it from? Then if they don't match, are there adapters you can get so they will work?

Is it a good idea to get the engine wiring from the 3L?

Can you use the SVT pistons in a 3L block?

First of all it all depends on which flavor of the 3L swap you wanted to do?

You can't use the 2.5 pistons since the 3.0 pistons are bigger...

I would go with an 01+ preferably 03/04 engines, either from Taurus, Tribute, Escape

If you use an Escape/Tribute engine there is gonna be a less transfer of parts over since the front timing cover, oilpan could be reused off the escape engines

What do you mean by connections? Sensors? If so oil pressure sensor might, knock sensor will have a different plug or it won't be there at all... Its a good idea to get the wiring just to have spares and if you wanted to change the injector/oilpressure/knocksensor plugs
Is your car return or returnless?
