I was living at home with parents and picked up a 1997 Pumice Contour gl in 1999 at the dealership after my other cars radiator exploded. Was such a good deal i couldnt pass up, although i really wanted the Cherry Red T-tops Camaro, but couldnt afford the insurance, DOH'...

Had my contour for over 7 years untill i needed more room, so i got a wagon with a turbo .

I was then able to park my car over night in the commuter lots and there for have a car on campus earlier then I should of. My roommate was always buying us booze with a fake id and I was doing alot of the driving to the package store. Things all around where pretty good. Was at school, had a good group of friends on the floor that I lived on, was working on campus, gernally enjoying life. I recall gas prices getting as low as $1.10 that year also. I have been here consitantly since then through alot of ups and downs over the years.
funny how similar my story is to yours...

The year i got my svt i was in my 2nd year of college(in rhode island)... being one of the few at my age with a car on campus, and my roomate having a fake id. we were the team picking up alcohol for most of the people in our building. Worked on campus too.. Although it was in late 04 so the gas prices werent as crazy, but still nice.

Actually, the Day I picked it up, I was at a college racquetball tournament in new york with my brother.. i played saturday, went home that night(to MA) in my 93 teal grand prix, my mom got up at 1am and took me out in it (my first time learning standard) i was back home by 2am.. woke up that morning for 6 and drove back to NY(with my 1hr standard experience, i stalled at a couple toll booths) to play my match around 9. And drove back to RI later that night. Somehow im still on the stock clutch

I think I got onto here before it was a formal site w/forums, etc.

Here is a link to a Usenet newgroup I started before the forum was up & running:
    http://groups.google.com/group/alt.c...b5a591c0eb7513

The 1st NE CEG meet was in Salem MA in my Mom's Driveway. There was a turnout of 4 ppl total, Tristen F, Eric (forgot his last name and he sold his car shortly thereafter I think), Bill Jenkins, and me. We basically talked cars for a couple of hours, discussed differences between the 98 and the 98.5, and did a little spin down to the park for some group pics of the cars. I have them in paper format someplace, it was before I had a digitial camera.

Ironic that I just popped on here out of chance. Sometimes I miss my SVT(s) a lot, sometimes I am glad they are gone. But I never owned a car that was more fun in about 90% of "real-world" driving.

I'd be interested to know if someone scooped up my car, I had traded it in at Ira Toyota 7/2004 - A black 99 SVT w/Ford Focus rims/snow tires, Borla exhaust, etc.
