Air ducts not working

I have a 98 Zetec with an auto trans and 110k on the odometer. I noticed last week that when I select say the full defrost air direction I get no air through the defrost ducts. I need a quick lesson on the air duct systems and where to start looking to correct this problem.

Sometimes. It seems to be random. That is why I need to look at the whole thing. I'm concerned that the baffles are not opening and closing properly. I just don't know how to trouble-shoot it.

What I am seeing is that the air flow direction baffles son't seem to be changing. I don't get the default defrost position but I don't seem to be able to have the air flow move to other settings either. My fan works just fine so I am at a loss.
