Went to put my chain guide back on and just now noticed that a piece of the black plastic at the bottom of it broke off at some point. Take a look.

The one above is from the 3.0 which I'm considering using as a replacement.

I hadn't seen this when I tore the engine down and I'm wondering if this may have led to a spun bearing. Is it possible that it broke and clogged the pick up tube screen causing loss of oil pressure and bye bye bearing? I read of at least one person that described a similar defect to their chain guide. Has anyone else seen this happen to their guides? Is it a reach to think this could have caused my spun bearing? I know about the oiling issues in the 2.5 being the usual suspect but I wonder if this is what did it.

This is why you replace everything. If nothing the guides should be done. Who knows if thats what caused your failure. Are you going to send it in to forensics to stretch your build until 2030?
