Went to put my chain guide back on and just now noticed that a piece of the black plastic at the bottom of it broke off at some point. Take a look.
The one above is from the 3.0 which I'm considering using as a replacement.
I hadn't seen this when I tore the engine down and I'm wondering if this may have led to a spun bearing. Is it possible that it broke and clogged the pick up tube screen causing loss of oil pressure and bye bye bearing? I read of at least one person that described a similar defect to their chain guide. Has anyone else seen this happen to their guides? Is it a reach to think this could have caused my spun bearing? I know about the oiling issues in the 2.5 being the usual suspect but I wonder if this is what did it.
