Thread: HID kits for SVT

  1. #1

    Default HID kits for SVT

I was wondering if any companies make HIDs specifically for the SVT.

If so where can I find them and ballpark how much do they cost?

If there are multiple kits available any suggestions on which one too buy?

I am sure this type of thread has been posted on here before, so sorry if it has, but I am a first time poster, and I have to leave for work in 40 minutes, so I was hoping to get some responses to this for when I get home tonight, and I didn't really have time to search through alot of threads right now.

    Thanks.

although HID kits are junk, no...not one company in the history of the world makes HID kits for the SVT Contour specifically. They DO however make them for the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique.

    Alright.

I am still a little confused but the HID thread was pretty informative.

My friend has a 2002 330ci, and the headlights are amazing, so basically to get results like his I would have to build a custom setup, and wouldn't just be able to install a plug in kit.

Correct me if I am wrong but to get similar results to his headlights I would need to use D2S bulbs(8000k) with projectors?

I am not very handy, besides the simple stuff like oil changes and brakes, but a lot of my friends are, and they are usually willing to give a helping hand so thats alright.

I just picked up a 98.5 SVT, and the headlights are horrible, and I really wanted HIDs in whatever I got next anyway, so I think I am going to have to do more research and go that route in the next few months.

    Thanks.

Also, does installing a HIDs, custom or plug in kit, create reliablity issues with the electrical system?

I always have loved Contours, and this is my second one, my last was a 95 V6, but I have my serious reservations about Fords, and am wary of doing anything with the electrical syatem or engine management.

I am seriosly nervous to even chip the car.

Is this just stupid or do I have valid concerns?

if you want your headlights to look like that of that BMW, then you will need to do a projector retrofitt to get the most out of your HID kit. If you want to go cheap and just use HIDs on ur stock headlight then you may also do that however you create more glare and most of the HID light gets scattered out because our headlights arent designed for HIDs. Dont get me wrong the output will still be better then stock but you will still lack putting all the light down onto the road. A projector however will ensure all your light going on the road..For projectors you need D2S bulbs and for regular stock housing lights you need D2R, thats all in the FAQ..You dont want 8000K because you might as well use your stock lights then. The bluer you go, the worse your output becomes. That BMW has a 4300K bulb and that is what you should get..anymore questions feel free to PM me..and regarding draining power, the HID bulbs are 35W as suppose to stock halogens that are iirc 55W..WITH A PROPER WIRING HARNESS YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS, BUT IF YOU USE THOSE "PLUG AND PLAY" KITS AND JUST DIRECTLY HOOK THEM TO YOUR 9006 PLUG, YOU WILL LIKELY BURN OUT YOUR HID BULBS..please keep that in mind, wiring harness is key. The FAQ states where you can find these..

please remember that with any HID kit, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!
