my brother and i have been searching around looking for a appropriate forum for our new project. we figure we would try here also; any help would be great!
We just inherited a one-owner '92 Corolla DX wagon w/AT and 73k miles. Needs some power and a MT. I don't know much about Toyotas but have considered the following engine/gearbox swap options:
1. 3sgte w/ S54 MT. Seems like it could be a pain to install and costly. Tuning potential is certainly there though.
2. 4a-gze w/MT, '92 or newer. Seems straightforward and cheap, though less power.
If anyone has any suggestions, comments, etc I would appreciate any input. It will also need suspension, wheel/tire, and brake upgrades, with an emphasis on cheap. For example, I thought '90-'93 Celica ST brakes might work with a hub swap? Pics will be uploaded tomorrow; I want the car to remain visualy unassuming as well as retain it's practical benefits, i.e. easy to maintain, decent mpg, and durability. Also, it would be helpful if anyone could recommend shops, junkyards, etc in the LA area.
-Cheers, Carlin + Ary
