Thread: Digital Tach for 1995 Contour

  1. #1

Default Digital Tach for 1995 Contour

I have a 1995 Contour virtually stock, very few modifications.
It has the simple instrument cluster with speedometer in the middle
    and no tach.

Is there any aftermarket tach that I can add. I prefer digital.
In fact I would like to get some sort of kit and put a digital readout
in one of the blank spaces on the dash. I thought of hacking up
one of the 4-inch long cover plates just to the left of the clock
and putting in the numeric readout. I hope the readout would look
    something like the clock digits.

Any ideas. Where can I get the raw materials, i.e. electronics
and the readout itself. I'd try to make a bezel out of the dash
    insert.

Regards -- Gary -- Still cold in Atlanta.

Well I don't know much about digital tachs, but if you can find one small enough, I think you should try getting a cluster out of a junkyard (HAS to be a '95 cluster or it WON'T work), and try fiddling with it. Although, from what I've heard, you can just get a Mystique cluster, which has a tach.

I fitted the Prosport shift light and digital tacho on a base model '93 Mondeo with just the speedo , it works like a dream, think it was 3 wires to connect and the connection is in the standard cluster,as the circuit board is common to all variants.

Hi - Thanks for the advice.
Does anyone have any photos of the finished job?
I'm really interested in an LED unit instead of a back-lit lcd.

You could also just swap out a gauge cluster from the same year that already has a tach in it.

just to make things easier, the trigger wire is located under your dash near the fuse box, it's a white wire with no stripes, just solid white, in the wiring harness. It may take a little digging to find but at least you know what to look for.
