Thread: Hello from Muskegon Michigan

  1. #1

    Default Hello from Muskegon Michigan

I'm a new member here, I stumbled onto it while looking for fixes for my quirky contour. I just recently bought it, a 97 Black Sport. Paid $2000 for it. 60,000 Miles, no accidents, and pretty good shape. It has a zetec and automatic. Everything is bone stock (the previous owner was an old lady. She bought it brand new 10 years ago. Her husband took care of oil changes and all maintenance at the dealership.)

There is a bit of interior damage, so I'm going to have to replace the drivers side B Pillar and the center console.

It's my first car and I'm a senior in highschool. I have read most contours have many issues, but I'm up for working on and learning about this car. I do have pictures if you guys are interested.

My name is kenny, and my aim/msn will be on here shortly. Feel free to im/email me if you need any computer help as thats my strong point.

Welcome Kenny. Glad to have you here.

    Spend some time reading here:
    http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=21

You will gather quite a bit of information in that forum. Also, the search feature will prove very useful also.

When you are able to leave this forum and post in every forum, go to your local regional forum and post a WTB (wanted to buy) in that classified section. I'm sure someone can help you find the parts that you need or you can hit up a local junkyard.

We are interested in pictures, post some for us.
    Christine

    Thanks for the link.

    Pictures are on the way.

Right now I have a new set of plugs, a serpentine belt, and a engine coolant sensor sitting at my stepdads shop. The sensor was nonworking when I bought the car, and the belt is cracked to hell. Plugs are never a bad idea either. Everything else in the engine is in pefect albeit dirty condition.

I do have a annoying problem though, when at idle with the tranny in gear, the RPMs drop to about 600 and the steering wheel/dash vibrate. Just holding the rpm at 700 solves the vibration but it is very annoying.

You have a broken tranny/engine mount.

I've been told a couple things but you are the first to repeat something that was said. Where is each mount located on the zetec automatic?

    1) Front engine mount (aka front roll resistor) below the center of radiator,
    2) Rear engine mount (aka rear roll resistor) below the middle of firewall,
    3) Tranny to driver fender mount below air filter housing,
    4) Passenger side engine mount next to Power steering pump.

Edit. Figure 12 shows the one below the air filter (aka tranny to driver fender mount).

Once I figure out which one is busted I can get it replaced rather easily. My stepdad owns a car shop so I have access to anything I need.
