Thread: Custom exhaust?

  1. #1

    Default Custom exhaust?

So i went to get the exhaust priced out for my '00 zetec atx. I was planning on 2.25 piping, no resonator, and a single muffler at the rear. Mandrel bent too. This was all going to start right after the flex tube, until i get the new cougar header down the road.

Anyway, the guy quoted me about 300 bucks. What do you think about that price wise.

    High, good...what?

Is that for stainless or aluminized steel? If stainless, that's a pretty good price. If aluminized, it's still not bad, but it won't last as long.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

    I agree, it sounds reasonable.

However, I really think instead of a muffler at the back and no res, you do it the other way around... get a magnaflow resonator off of ebay with a 2.25 i/o and do no muffler, trust me, its a way better setup.... For one you dont get any rasp when its cold, and for two when you are crusing at highway speeds, the exhaust is hardly noticeable, that way it wont make you tired/give you a headach when you go on a road trip, and it will be nice and loud when you give it the beans every once in a while.

I have mine setup fairly similar except I am running stock piping with a magnaflow res and straight pipe in place of where the muffler used to be, I get a lot of complements, plus Reebs and I went on a road trip to central Ohio and back, Reebs commented that the exhaust is hardly noticeable at highway speeds, so theres a 2nd opinion too.

Personally, I'd say it's about right for mandrel bent pipe (I'm gonna assume aluminiumized... SS would be a lot more $$) WITH a decent aftermarket muffler (not a stock type like they have hundreds of on the rack).

I do have a question though if it is in fact not stainless steel... why get rid of the factory SS pipes? Aluminiumized pipe will rust out in a few years... the factory SS will never rust.

I didn't get that deep into everything with him about the materials. I was trying to see where my finances sat first because with high school and other stuff, my paychecks are a little sparse.

I'll probably end up buying the cougar header like i said and at the same time get this done over xmas break.

My muffler it just a simple 2.25 inlet/ 4in outlet. It has dampening material inside so i'll still pass dB tests during inspection. It was like 75$.

Also, I pretty much want the car to be as loud as it can be, because I'm a show boater when it comes to that stuff. Whether it be highway or takeoff, i still want it to be decently loud. I still will look into the resonator no muffler setup though.

just bustin your chops. definetly go the no muffler resonator route. sounds better. i had no res. and summit turbo, then switched to no muffler magnaflow res.

Its a zetec. its not SS piping. even if it was its only a 1.75" diameter

for Mandrel bent 2.25" piping from that far forward i would say thats a pretty good price.
