Thread: another newbie

    Default another newbie

I finally have the ability to post!

Picking up my SVT tonight. It is completely stock, but they shouldn't last too long.

The engine is a SVT rebuild with 50k miles post rebuild. How long do these motors normally last? (before I can have a good reason to put a 3l in it!)

The carpet inside is a mess. How difficult is it to take out and replace? I saw someone parting out a car on here and carpet in the right color was available.

I also need new tires. The rubber is low. I figured I would move up to 17 inch rims while I was it. I've seen some real nice looking rims on some of your cars! I even pm a guy selling tires on here. Guess he wasn't real interested in selling them though. I'll keep looking for now.

I'm glad to join you guys. It should be fun.

    Welcome!
    Congrats on your purchase.
I can't really say how long an engine will last, it depends on a number of factors.
Preventive maintenance is always a good way to help it last longer though. Do a drain fill on the trans fluid, replace the belts, WP, change the oil, etc. as required. Doing those things can help to extend the life of your engine.

    Two things about the SVT:
Run at least 6 quarts of oil, some people run 6 1/2 quarts. The V6 has oil starvation issues on long sweeping right hand turns at higher RPM's.
The second, add extra coolant to the tank. The Duratec coolant sensor is picky and sometimes throws the coolant light even though the level is at the line. Add coolant to the top of the word MAX on the tank and you will be fine.

Check out the tire forum. Tires.com is having a special, $100 off a set of tires or rims.
Sometimes the people that post in the classified section take two or more days to write back, don't be discouraged. I'm sure the seller will respond.

How bad is the carpet? Can you steam clean it? You would have to take out the seats, remove the center console and remove the trim pieces at the bottom to take out the carpet. It's a job and you need to be careful when removing the trim pieces. If you break the clips, the dealer won't have any for you to replace them with.

Good luck with the SVT! Post some pictures for us.

I'll make sure to add fluids as you suggested. Thank you.

Well the guy did reply ... and well wasn't too nice. Kind of stupid really. He was the one trying to sell the tires. No way would I buy from him now, and there was a good chance I would have because he was local.

The carpet looks like someone spilled a full coke on it every 3 months for the past 8 years and never cleaned it. I'm going to pay some one to steam clean it and see how clean it gets first. Thanks for letting me know it is a lot of work to change.

I take it clean floor mats with SVT on it are hard to find. ???

I plan to have fun with it. If I break it that is okay. I have another vehicle to drive while I fix it. No pics ... there is no point. It isn't the cleanest and is completely stock.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Try to break the 2.5 and use the 3L from an escape. Check out the duratec performance forum for the upgrades you wil need. Have fun

Or dont break it so you can sell the 2.5L motor for your 3.0L project.

Okay I wanted to break it but not this quick!!!!

On the way home with the car something happened to the clutch or shift linkage. I was almost stranded at a stop light when the car decided it wasn't going to shift any more. I forced it into first after a bit and limped it home. The car is parked, and I have to drive my F150 again!

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe he was just having a bad day?

I think most of it will come out with a good cleaning and some scrubbing.
Yes, those floor mats are hard to come by. If you find a set, they will be expensive.

Does the shifter want to stay in neutral and when moved go in a circular motion?

Thanks for the compliment on my rims.

No. It wants to stay in neutral in that there is a strong resistance to going into gear. But it moves side to side and up and down normally until hitting the resistance. It feels like trying to shift without touching the clutch. Though I'm not sure it is the clutch or not. Could be shift cables.

I have a thread in the EGL section on it, and didn't want to cross post it elsewhere.

Thanks for the compliment on my rims.
