Thread: zetec differences PLEASE help

  1. Default zetec differences PLEASE help

i really need to know this so any help will be greatly appreciated

can someone educate me in the differences between zetec in the escort, focus, and contours

i have a focus and need to swap for different motor, well we have very few foci and quiet a few contours and escorts

so if anyone could take a pic of a contour zetec out of a car that way i can see the differences, between them, i think the mounts are the biggest differences

    any help would be great

you are best off going with another Focus Zetec, those were the best of the the Zetec. Family, plus your motor doesnt have VCT. the Escort ZX2 had a zetec, but it was a VCT zetec, same thing with the contours, they were also a VCT zetec.

Plus the Focus zetec is pretty readily avalible, shouldnt be too difficult to find.

IMHO the pre98 "silvertop" zetecs were/are the best. they are by far the stoutest factory zetec block avaiable. the main bearing journals are actually bigger than the billet ones avaiable for the focus they are also easy to find and you can use focus rods, pistons, and bearings for a rebuild.

Europe (and I believe early 95 Contours) had a Zetec that said something like "DOHC 16V" in block letters on the valve cover instead of the styled "16V Zetec" we're used to.

I wonder if there's anything different other than the valve cover...

there is no difference between 95 and the 96-97 engines other than valve cover lettering and some of the sensor connectors.

    i am in utah

and well i actually have a pos spi, but they are WAY to expensive
so why not just swap the the zetec? its a better motor theres more aftermarket support and they are easy to find everywhere else, so there is a jyard with a contour here with a nice low mileage zetec

so tats where i am at, oh and btw you guys are a MUCH lrger help than any of the focus guys

There's a thread currently running over on MEG regarding fitting a Mondeo 'silvertop' to an Escort. The comments after the OP provides the differences and what would need doing, albeit the other way around lol.
