But it lacks a real title...

I got a free 1994 Ford Escort LX today, in okish shape, it runs, however the previous owner only had a photocopy of their title. Lost the original copy of the title, so obviously I can't register the car.

Appearently IL wants us to get a Duplicate Title (new one), the photocopy isn't good enough, even though it has a VIN, Title number, owner name/address/license number, and so on.

Has anyone had issues like this? I did hear from the Currency Exchange to have both people go to the DMV, and appearently all can be done at once? order a duplicate title AND register the car to the new owner (Me)

I don't feel like waiting a few months until they get the remake of the title, then I goto the DMV to register it.
