    Default McIntosh...Whats the Hype!

So whats the hype behind McIntosh car audio? Its really expensive but looks pretty generic IMO. Any experience/input?

They look generic, so what? Since when were high end stereos made to be looked at. Listen to the equipment and you won't be asking this question

McIntosh makes really nice head units and amps, pricey but very nice! I personally prefer the classy look as opposed to the cheesy look with 37 different neon colors and swimming dolphin screensavers on a head unit.

I believe some McIntosh amps use tubes instead of solidstate technology

They're local to me. It's true audiophile quality. Some of their lower-end stuff is in the Ford GT, so that gives you an idea of their market.

Well I never said generic looking was good or bad. I personally agree with SQLSVT I prefer the generic look over the crazy neon flashing HU. Just getting a little input before I gain enough courage to call and find out what one of these bad boys cost. I'll post when I get more info.

OK just got off the phone with England Audio in Eugene, OR. He qouted me $1300 for the MX406 HU and $1800 for the MCC404 4 channel amp. Wow, if the HU is worth it I may slurge, as in if I would not have to buy another HU ever again. But for the amps I may research a little bit.
