Unhappy Wiring Loom For 97 Mondeo Duratec

Have just finished replacing the Fuel Runner Wiring Harness in my 97 Uk Spec V6 Mondeo. It was absolutely shot and , according to the local wreckers, this is a common problem and the source of many suspected IMRC problems. Almost EVERY wire had broken down insulation and there must have been shorts by the dozen. I now see the ATX loom is nearly as bad and might have to treplace that too before I try to sort out possible VSS sensor problems and a poor shifting (rebuilt TWICE in 2 years!!) transmission. I'll be sending a writeup with pix to this and Mondeo site in due course but I suggest if you have what seem to be IMRC problems then check the condition of your wiring as well. Its not up to spec for the heat generated under the bonnet and nor are the plastic plugs - mine are ALL brittle from heat damage. A potentially great car let down by cost saving on materials!!! Bad one Ford (IMRC, Wiring, ATX)..where else did you cut costs?

Question, can anybody point me to a picture of the wiring loom - especially where it plugs into the main loom(?) at the rear of the motor. A parts manual pic would be ideal

Is it possible to replace the section with the engine /TX still in the car or is this a MAJOR.

Course I then need to actually FIND a good loom - the Fuel one is OBSOLETE in NZ and Australia according to Ford so it was either new one ex USA ($NZ700) or a good secondhand one locally ($NZ85)...guess which I chose even tho it is still not perfect. Suspect this one would be the same.

Glad my next door neighbour is a top mechanic and best of all understand ELEKTRICKERY..its a mystery to me even tho mechanics don't faze me.

    Hi Tony,

    Many thanks for this info.

I intend to contact Ford Motor Co of Nz and see if I can get them to cover my Mondeo under this same recall. I suspect I am not going to have much luck but worth a try and given that my wiring is almost toally uselss I have nothing to lose - maybe I can get them to at the very least provide me with a free harness and I'll pay the labour.

    Cheers
