Question What do you think: Projector choice, Halo option?

Ok because of the latest Morette post I've decided I'm going to just buy a pair of projectors with my credit card to make just one headlight and then use the same projectors to make the other light to save on money. This way I can get the process rolling.

My question is if someone wants to upgrade to HID lighting and maintain usage of high beams, wouldn't you need two low beam Hella 90mm (like Quicksilver, Milan)? As they are the true projector housing were the 90mm high beam is not.

    Using two low beams

Using one low beam one high beam

And then of course there is the halo option, which despite a few I am really debating about doing

So what are your thoughts and needs I guess...

Heres what I'm looking at for an upfront cost to get these going:

Description Price Quantity Total Modify Delete
    68137 90mm Low Beam Headlamp, DOT, w/65w H9 Bulb, Each Requires 1 H9 Connector per Lamp, HL87193 $58.75, $117.50
    87193 H9 Connector w/pins & seals, Each $6.70, $13.40

    Subtotal: $130.90

Standard Shipping: Priority Mail or UPS Ground $9.00

    Total $139.90

I already have the parts to build the halo's. Although before I drop 140 bucks I want to make sure that is what the majority of you guys want to go with. So that if I rebuild these things for anybody people will be happy with them.

Talk to Pudmunkie (Alex). He does custom fabrication work and could weigh in on what projectors to use. IIRC the 90mm Hella's are a bit on the big side. Vaelo's are a better way to go IMO.

valeo are the only other ones that would fit in our housing, however Alex has E46 Boschs in his and they are up there with Valeo, but I believe we settled on valeo being a tad sharper

Anywho 90mm as always is the safest way to go, however Alex has mastered mounting the Bosch so that wouldnt be a problem for him. Angel eyes IMO only belong on BMWs..anyother car would = RICE!

Hella 90mm's (low beams) - Great halogen projectors. leave alot to be desired in HID form.

Hella 90mm's (using low beams as highs) - They look bad ass, but even if you remove the cut off shield you wont be getting a great high beam. High beams need range, low beams need spread. Milan did ALOT of cutting to the headlight and the projector to get the low beams to fit in the high beam location.

Hella 90mm's (high beam) - roxor. fit in the housing perfectly fine doing it Dion/swazo style, you only need to trim one mounting ear off. These high beams have INCREDIBLE range.

For your project, Id recomend you go with the low beam / high beam set up (hella 90mm). This lets you offer them as a halogen set up, that people can modify for HID's if they want. Most people (95%) arent going to notice the difference, or care that their projectors are not top tier in terms of performance.

I won't be using Bosch or Valeo because they are not seal units. They need to be behind a clear lense and sealed off from the elements. The Hella 90mm units are the only projectors I know of that are completely sealed (minus the Hella 50mm units). Everything else needs to be enclosed.

Thats why I was only asking about 2 low beams or 1 low and 1 high beam hella 90mm.

Sounds like I should do one low beam and one high beam.
