Lost 1st, 3rd, and 5th
So I was on an on-ramp this afternoon and after shifting from 3rd to 4th, something felt weird. Then I couldn't find 5th. I would put the stick in place but nothing would engage. So I freaked out and pulled over, then I couldn't find 1st, it would just grind lightly. Fortunately, 2nd works so i was able to go home, and I found out that 4th works as well. Reverse also works. So basically I lost the upper row.
Any ideas on how much this is going to cost me? Or transmission recommedations in the Boston Metrowest area (Framingham, the 'boroughs, etc).
Thanks!

pop the shifter boot and look at the shifter cables.
one is undone.
If not there, pop the hood and look between the Throttle body and the driver's side strut mount, a little deeper, for those same two cables. Have a friend move the shifter up/down, and left/right. You'll see one of them isn't moving. you can replace them, regardless of which end broke, with nothing to do with the transmission.
It isn't as bad as you think!
