Thread: help!

    Default help!

    I was driving today and i smelt something burning and my AC stopped working the air started getting warm so I pull over and the pulley for the ac was smoking from rubbing up against the belt whats the best thing to assume is the compressor toast ?

    Do you know if your compressor is seized, or if the belt was loose (bad tensioner)? When my compressor seized, smoke started coming out of my vents. Luckily my 3rd party warranty covered it.

    Removing the compressor looks pretty straightforward. If it is the problem, you should be able to swap the compressor and take it somewhere for the refrigerant, or charge it yourself if you have a kit.

    I think it seized because I smelt burning smell coming thru the vents

    Sounds like what mine did when it seized. For now, you can get a Serp belt for a Contour without AC and just "bypass" it until you can get it fixed. I've gone the last 2 summers here in Phoenix without AC, not much fun.

    Sounds like the clutch on it has seized. Did it throw out sparks, and make a horrid grinding sound?

    No I just started to smell a burning smell thru the vents, I took it in today ill be dropping down 600 bucks to get it fixed
