I managed to disloacte my shoulder in a freak accident.. i tripped and fell into my buddies truck which i think did it and then i fell to the floor hitting the same shoulder and messing it up even more.. then monday.. i helped my dad fix our garage door and it popped out again.. now i have a 10 day follow up appointment comming up soon and if it still hurts like it does today, I'm getting and MRI and if that showes damage i might have to get surgery on it.. I had mine pop out while I was playing semi-pro hockey. Once you have this injury it will re-occur over and over and over. Basically you stretched the ligaments so the ball of the shoulder does not sit as tight anymore so bumping it the wrong way or bending it etc will cause it to pop out again which explains why it popped out again when you were working on your garage. Mine was so bad that it got to the point that when it would pop out I would pop it back in and it wouldn't even hurt anymore. It should have been operated on but I could not afford to miss the rest of the season (scholarship and draft eligibility would have went down the drain). It took me a good year of self re-habing before it got back to the same strength as my other shoulder and stopped popping out. It has been a few years so I can pretty much do anything w/ my once bad shoulder, although it has a tad less mobility than my other shoulder but to be honest it is so slight that I barely notice most of the time. Since the hockey days are over I took up bodybuilding and I can lift very heavy weight if I chose to w/ my bad shoulder. So while this injury is extremely stubborn and a real PITA ass once it happens as long as you rehab it and are extremely diligent with it, it can get back to where it was before and actually get stronger.

you should have a doc look at it....it may need to be operated on. If you tore your rotator cuff which is very likely in this injury you will need serious rehab like i had to do. When I used to do a "windmill" with my bad arm/shoulder I would feel it pop inside, not out of socket but just make the noise and slight movement could be felt. Also when I continued to play and it would pop out I would get a "stinger" for a few minutes. Just how you described my whole arm would go numb and feel like its on fire. What is happening is you are pinching nerves. Occasionally it makes the popping sound to this day but it does not come out of socket. I have not put much emphasis on it as I can do whatever I want w/ it w/ no ill effects. I'm sure it's just the way it healed. It probably did not heal exactly the way it should of if it had been operated on but I hate going under the knife and will avoid it at all costs. Plus I just couldn't at the time of my injury. There was to much at stake at the time.

I go in to the doc in a few days for a follow up.. If it still hurts and pops I'll have to get an MRI...

Make sure to continue with the follow ups at the doctor and get the MRI so that they can see what's going on.

I dislocated my shoulder three times and had to have four surgeries. I tore all the ligmaments and some muscle.

Not a fun rehab by any means but if you do as they tell you the outcome is good these days.

Most times they treat with first with NSAI meds and some light therapy. If that isn't working then they will do a few other tests and may do arthroscopic surgery to see what's going on in there.

Eventually your doctor may order a never conduction study to see if there is any impingement (you have tingling in your arm). I had four of them and found no impingement. Yet I still have that tingling.

Unfortunatly for me I did this years ago, before all of the new advances in shoulder surgery. Had I done it more recently it would probably would have been only one surgery.

Now, I have chronic pain in my right shoulder.

My advice...continue to see the doctor and do as he/she tells you. For now, rest your arm/shoulder.

Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!

At least yours didn't stay out of socket, I was tripped into the boards at full speed on a breakaway in hockey back in college (Hey I see on this post I'm not the only one!) and dislocated it to the back and it stuck. a doctor came out and put his foot on my chest and yanked up on my arm while I layed on my back on the ice and it went back in which hurt 5x worse than the dislocating part. Since then I dislocated it durring another body check 3 weeks later and my strength in that shoulder just isnt what it used to be. I think its fine now but for the next couple years after the two dislocations I would not be able to lift nearly as much weight as I used to. Especially bench pressing. The muscle strength was there but I would just get this weird feeling like it was ready to pop out again.
