I'm working on replacing my head gasket. When I removed the 10 nuts holding the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head, all 10 mounting studs came with them. I'm not surprised, as this is a 96 that has apparently never had them removed before, so they were rusted/fused together.

My questions are: When I reinstall the manifold, can I reuse the fused studs/nuts or do I need to buy new ones? If I do need to buy new studs/nuts, are these a dealer only item, or will an OTC store have them? Lastly, is there a gasket between the manifold and the cat? As I'm not completely removing the manifold, just getting it loose from the head, I can't really tell.

Thanks!

its recommended to replace them since they did come out. IIRC there is a gasket between the manifold and cat.

I re-used manifold bolts on the '99 Zetec when I installed a header.

If you insist on replacing them, you may find replacements for a Cougar, Focus or a Zetec Escort. Be sure to bring one of your old ones along to make sure they're the same size. The top driver side bolt may also have a compound on the threads to guide the header into the correct position. I don't recall if there was some on the passenger side.
