I was wondering if anyone knows a decent replacement radio with a cd/mp3 player that would be able to use the existing hardware without any modifications
TIA

any single din stereo will fit. Just buy an adapter harness (and amp bypass if you have premium sound) and you are good to go...no special size or anything needed.
Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine are pretty much comparable in quality in each price range, so you should shop for what you like (features, aesthetics, gizmos) in your price range.

Some good info for removal and new installation here.

When my stocker started rejecting cds, I picked up an Aiwa off of crutchfield for ~ 95 bucks with the harness and shipping it was something like $120.
It wasn't a amazing HU by any means, but it gets the job done and has one set of RCA outputs and an audio jack on the front for an auxilary port for things such as laptops/dvd player/mp3 player.

I like my Pioneer 7600MP I got from Best Buy. It has 3 sets of RCA outputs (F/R and non-faded Sub) and an IPBus (for cd changers and sat radio) jack that I bought a cheap Aux input setup off Ebay that jacks in there with RCA inputs for whatever.
Has a pretty (read: girls love it) OEL face with some gimmicky screen savers (WTF dolphins), somewhat-useful level meters, and can display letters that are easily readable (unlike the cheap segment displays originally made for numbers). All the setup stuff has pictures and makes it real easyI saw a friend try to program his Alpine with the segments... took him 30 minutes to change the clock! (note, he forgot how to get to the clock settings because it's not something you play with often)
Only reason I bought it from Best Buy was because my old 2nd from the cheapest 2001 series (got it from Walmart) Pioneer's internal amp fried (the single rear output worked fine) from a battery cable mishap (let's just say I tried to start the car thru my audio system, with the HU the weak link... battery=>chassis cable was disconnected, but amp's ground was still connected), and nobody else carried what I wanted in a decent price... I die if I don't have tunes!
Anyhow, go to a bunch of stores and try out all the radios they have in your price range, then either buy whoever has the cheapest one that you like, or go online and buy it (be smart... too good to be true probly is!).
Note that Germans call "RCA" jacks "Squeeze" jacks...![]()

thanks for all the help and the pdf instructions
Thanks again
Am I the only one perfectly happy with the stock Premium stereo? It still works just fine after eight years. Of course, if there was [B]something[B] worth listening to in music that had been made in the last 25 years, that would help too!

Yes.
Both of mine were P'sOS. The first one started rejecting CDs. Wouldn't/couldn't read them. Took it in under warranty. Dealer installs another one. Half the buttons woulnd't light, then eventually (after the warranty expires) the thing starts hoarding CDs, won't eject them. I had to bang on the bottom of the dash to get them out. Then it wouldn't load them. When I finally pulled it out to replace it, it was obvious the POS dealer had installed a (POORLY) serviced unit in place of my original, rather than replacing it with a new one. Needless to say the OEM HU got the sledgehammer mod after removal. Ahhhhh....made me feel a LITTLE better!
