Saturday 5/2 Mini Meet

Shotwell, it was good to see you again. Good luck with that maintenance project you are about to undertake and don't forget the pic's!

We had a good time and for you that weren't there we ate your pizza, drank your adult beverages and ridiculed you for not making it...... and also Shotwell for driving a VW vegie-car......LOL That is not to say it would not be OK to have a vegie Mondeo.......

We also did not take pic's so there isn't any real proof that we were actually meeting at a brew pub & pizza parlor..... I think I got those security tapes erased and Shotwell you really owe me for that...... Don't ask I don't think that story could be posted here...... ever........ But things happen when three ex swabbies start telling sea stories..... :nonono:

HK's ride is really coming along..... Look'n good, sounding good, and riding on rails....

I don't know what you're talking about. I wasn't there. You can't prove anything!

AF - Thanks a bundle for the franken-alternator. It's definitely a step in the right direction to getting my car back on the road.

HK - Thanks for the shirt...ROCK! Had some guy in Marysville inform me that the car on my shirt was in fact NOT a Cobra, and that SVT never made an Escort. I just shook my head and walked out. Tool bag.

PDX - Do you have a replacement side skirt?

x2

Cool you wore it:laugh: I wear mine once in a while i baby it like the tour.Thank you from the compliments AU, my tour blushed.

I did a data log with my xcal to check the volts. After reading a thread about engine dieing when ABS kicks in, witch is happening to me, and after the swabbies diagnosis of my mystery noise being either the ALT or the PS pump i was almost certain it was the ALT. Now im 100%. The data log showed a peak of 14.1 Volts but quickly went to 13.4-13.7 at idle. After a few revs it climbed to 13.9 or so then back down. I even turned all my gadgets on and it dropped quickly down, down, down all the way to 11.5 then i shut everything down and got it back to 13.5-13.7

Those are not good numbers....:nonono: Better find a Motorcraft reman ASAP.

The guy a Schucks was trying to tell me just to get a lifetime on an autolite and i asked him if that includes labor too?

I told him my car likes FORD oem only and he was rolling his eyes saying it dont matter lol

That must be why my buddy quit. Im going to look elsewhere.

For the heck of it you ought to call Auto Battery & Electric over on SE Hawthorne:

Auto Battery & Electric
Address: 1515 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214 Phone:(503) 238-0888

and see if they'd do another Contour after PDXSVT got through with them..... LOL

I also know these guys are real good and maybe are a parts supplier too:
Gibson Auto & Electric Address: 211 SE 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97214 Phone:(503) 231-4100

NAPA may be your friend in finding a Motorcraft reman that is right. Just don't get one that does this inside:
Alt melt dwn 1.jpg
Alt melt dwn 2.jpg

As I understand it there is quite a difference in rebuilt and remanufactrued regarding what and how much is done to the old unit. The one above melted down inside and it was quite a mess. Phone camera didn't do so good on these pics, but when it went it smelled like melting insulation and I thought at first one of my mods had gone south on me ....... I should have known better...

lolololol i can imagine what you were thinking, that smell is never good. Thank you for the info i will give them a shout and see what they can do for me. I just hope PDXSVT did not tip them to well or they may be expecting it:laugh: I mean must have spend a fortune to get that AMAZING weight reduction done.

About ABE on Hawthorne: I'd expect them to do a bang up job. The head reman guru there will never let the crewman forget that single little wire spot he messed up on. And with all the practice they had doing the repeated pull/install on my car, they should be able to do yours in a snap. Expect parts/labor of $340.

And to you scarcastic skeptics about my weight reduction: (I earned those missing skirts driving Portland streets without chains last December. Only got stuck 1x, saw a few 4x4s without chains stuck, almost no FWDs with cables or chains out in that mess.) And with the dirt and crud crusted up in those side skirts, I must be down 20 lbs having them off. Isn't that worth 1.3 horsepower? Tick me off any more and I'll do an affidavit that I saw you all there, you bunch of radioman water-assaulting harbor pilot navigator gunny's mate needle-pointed paint-sanding staggering out of port salty subjects for the shore police.

By the way HK, the MotorCraft alternator direct from Ford (fordpartsonline.com) is cheaper than going to ANY parts store. That's right, NEW is CHEAPER than RE-CRAPUFACTURED!!! Call Bill Jenkins and you might get an even better price.

That's what I was going to do before, well, er, one appeared in my car in the viscinity of Jantzen Beach, cough

Thank you for the great input guys! I called ABE and talked to randy. he said 309$ For labor and parts. This seems like a great deal. It will postpone my pillar pod install but hey who can use them if you have no power, Shotwell? Oh ehm ehm that was a low blow but its late and i think SW can take it  That was a great price for a new OEM unit BTW Shotty, RE-CARPUFACTURED lololol. I talked to randy about the special need of our cars and he was not worried. He assured me they rebuild OEM units so we will just have to see. PDXSVT did they charge you for the re-pull install? Oh yeah guys check out my poll on the grill emblems in pics and vid. I have a cool FAST oval i may have for sale/trade

I initially got one quote from ABE for the entire job, parts and labor, and when they had to go over all the wiring and then pull the unit they installed and install another, it was all covered by the first quote, no additional charge (there's a bad alternator pun). If you get your car done there, tell Randy I say hello. With all the labor time they lost on me, it's nice they'd get to put that practice to good use.
