We had some rain the last week, and then last few days we had some more snow. That usually means avalanches, as the new fallen snowpack lays on top of glazed, iced snow underneath and the layers don't mix... they slide on top of each other. So on my way to the ice hockey rink this AM with my son for his Saturday practice, we stopped to take this shot of the avalanche across the channel on Thane Road. I think it cut off traffic from the housing south of Juneau, and that area shown is aptly name "Avalanche Gulch". I also tossed in a pic of downtown Juneau with the new fallen snow on the mountain behind town .... it's so purty!
