Some may like, some may hate but they are fully working vents. You can actually feel the air being pulled into the intake if you place your hand over the vent above the intake :shocked:

The one above the expansion tank vents out the heat.

Looks great!! I wouldn't jump to conclusions about their function, though. You want one under low pressure to pull air out (overflow box) and one under high pressure to force air in (intake). As a law of physics, only one of those scoops is going to work because they're in the same place on the hood. I don't know exactly how this applies to a Mondeo, but basic aerodynamics says that you most likely put those just outside the high pressure zone infront of the windshield, so you're going to get a bit of cooling but you might actually wind up suffocating the intake at high speeds because the air pressure outside the scoop may end up being lower than the pressure under the hood.
