Prep work is key you're right. I have a circular polisher with the best ccs foam pads that wont burn paint and the results are amazing when you're trying to polish up a damaged surface. Random oribitals are great with a good surface because anyone can use them but any decent body shop will hit it with circular first and then sometimes switch to an orbital.
