unit replacement? I am thinking of replacing mine and am unsure of what to buy from a parts standpoint and what steps to take, or if I should just take it somewhere, however I typically like doing stuff like this myself. thanks

Go in to the audio place, and check out the Contour harness's, at some spot near you, support your local sales, but maybe not the labor costs lol, im j/k.

Swoop up those harness's for HU, and the amp bypass one.

Next, prepare for purchase online, or at the store or whatnot for the deck. I recommend a new deck ebay sale from a reputable seller.

heres one for bypassing the amp,

gather the contour harness and bypass harness,

the HU harness connection is simple, follow thru with the amp bypass and you should be good.

You own your car, why not get to know it a lil better, but I do see that HU sales these days include a free install and blah blah blah.....but its really simple to install a HU. Everybody should do it at least once in thier life.

Take your new deck, with your new contour harness, and in the comfort of your kitchen or living room, attach the new harness to the HU, (dont sweat outside) make good firm grabs on those connections, solder, crimp, whatever.... Then go outside and plug it in, run the amp bypass and enjoy.

The removal of the stock deck can be frustrating, but be patient, and line up those U Forks and pull. Maybe someone can describe a tug or wiggle or somethin, but just get that darn thing out lol.

How bout alpine? http://item.express.ebay.com/__Car-...2dDashQ20ReceiversQQptdiZ961QQcmdZExpressItem

Pioneer?

Do you have a bluetooth phone?

I do but was looking for something pretty basic, I was originally considering this pioneer ..just something with an aux in for my Zen

I was also looking at this kenwood, but don't know if they are any good...

Keep in mind that yes everything depreciates in value and that pioneer 7800 was like a 400 dollar deck, and you can get it for 255 shipped. my friend paid the full retail at that crutchfield place, like 4 bones. like 8 months ago. they are nice decks.

I think oyu will be much more satisfied with doubling your budget: at 99.00 bucks thats the bottom end gap, with not too much headroom for features or upgrades. I do say that the 99 dollar deck will still meet your requirements, but, if you like playing around with EQ's settings and stuff, (maybe you dont want to fuss with em either) I say get a 200$ deck. Put your stereo to work for you, ala bluetooth.....But if you DONT like messing with EQ settings I say get that 99.00 pioneer, cause thier Stock EQs sound better off the shelf than kenwoods stock selection personally.

But, whats 200 bucks these days? Im tellin ya, better screen, a lil more power, remote control, and bluetooth thru your stereo is hott.

And if you decide to pump up your listening pleasure, by adding an amp or upgrading speakers the more spendier decks give you more options.

But maybe you want to save a buck, go for it. Or maybe you just want a better deck, and play Cd's then get the 99$ dollar guy, and on your next car you will have a better idea if its really worth it to spend the 250.00 or 100.00 bucks.

Heres that kenwood for 103.00 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2007-Kenwoo...ryZ39751QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Heres one with the harness at 126.00 but you need to tell him what vehicle you have when you order.

Theres more of these to go around at this price for sure, so dont jump on it by all means.

Nice pioneer (Need optional bluetooth adapter ) for 150. http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-DEH-P49...4QQihZ017QQcategoryZ39752QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

For the price, go kenwood. 100 bucks how can you go wrong?

Hey thanks, I will keep it in mind, right now after my ac and brake work I am a bit tight on the funds and am trying to keep on a budget, plus I am so used to the stock suckness that I figured I didn't need much...

Here are a few others I was looking at:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pana...75017/catOid/-13642/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Also I noticed that Circuit City offers free install on models $100 and up? is that worth it if the price of the radio is right or are they more likely to mess something up?

And I assume bluetooth integration is for hands free calling? what other benefits are there? thanks

No the bluetooth crap is only for a phone call, or if you have another bluetooth device, maybe you could link it with the deck but, pretty much only phones (and maybe a laptop for streaming music.....)

Do they make bluetooth adapters for Ipod? I believe they do... and, could be paired to the deck. When you say you have a Zen....do you mean a Zune? microsoft mp3 player? Then you could get an bluetooth adapter for that and stream music to you deck from that too....

I say no to panasonic. Pioneer or Alpine for the win.

Like I was sayin if its no big deal to you..... go budget, if you want to try bluetooth calls and stuff, step it up a notch, if you just want an easy deck to control, without breaking your bank, I say go pioneer or alpine.

Well, by the time you get the bluetooth adapter youll be lookin at 350. so I dont think its in your budget to do that.

Heres an alpine 9883 search ebay page, you can get one for 152.00 shipped for the 9883 or spend 50 bucks more at best buy.
http://search.ebay.com/alpine-9883_...rgnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZunknown

The main diff between the 9883 and 9885 is the display and 40 bucks. But otherwise a smooth ass deck. Other wise if you dont like it, Id say get a cheaper pioneer and go with it...what do you think about alpine?
