  • I Can't Find Certain Parts - Suggestions?

I'm hoping someone can help me because I am totally lost. My father needs me to order parts for his car and he gave me a list. I'm having trouble finding parts and not sure if what I am finding is compatible. I'm also dealing with internet that is slower than DSL and many pages take 15 minutes or more to fully load, if I'm lucky.

The car is a 1998 Mercury Mystique (GS, I think), 2.0L L4. When looking for the following items, which ones are specific to the car they're being used in?

    ECT Sensor
Thermostat housing (there's a note that looks like it says that the housing is supposed to go on top of the sensor???)
    Radiator support brackets
Rubber inserts for top and bottom of radiator

I might've found the thermostat housing on Rock Auto, but I can't find the other parts. I don't see them on that site and many other sites list the brackets as discontinued. Advanced Auto sells them for $300 for both. Some of the sites don't have pictures and only very basic information about the products.

Could someone please suggest some websites that might have these? I don't even know what these things are and my father is whining like a little b*tch and having a hissy fit because I can't find them. Anyone ever see a grown man having a hissy fit? It's not pretty. Also, he's an A-hole. But if I don't find this stuff I'll never hear the end of it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Well... I found the ECT sensor after I found out it was called an Engine Coolant Thermometer Sensor.

Are there other names of the other parts I listed? Maybe I can't find them because the wrong terminology is used.

Does anyone know where I can find a parts list for this car? Or anything that shows the parts and their numbers? I'm looking for something I can download ASAP. I think if I can find the original part number, I/we/he will have better luck finding the correct replacement. It's a '98 Mercury Mystique GS 2.0L L4.

He doesn't seem to know or understand what he needs anymore. He got confused when I showed him some of the parts online. I told him he should've junked that car years ago. He could've had a good used car for what he's spent trying to fix this one. He had the transmission fixed last year and something else. The transmission (automatic) wouldn't shift from Park to Drive or something like that. He had to put it in Low, then to Drive once it got to a certain speed. Darn thing keeps breaking down since then. If it's not one thing it's another.

          Thanks.

So when buying the thermostat housing are there supposed to be three parts: two housing parts and the thermostat? And the coolant temp sensor plugs into the housing, yes?

As a rule, the dealerships will not maintain parts inventory past about 10 model years, Partsvoice is a great dealer inventory search tool if you know part numbers, I've used them frequently to find parts. Partsvoice has found some old stuff for me that I though had been purged from dealer inventory.
Greensales is a company that buys up old dealership inventory by the semi-truck load and warehouses the stuff for restorers and enthusiasts like us who keep cars for 20+ years.

The problem with the housing is that I found a parts diagram that shows two pieces of that housing with the thermostat going inside of them. https://www.bluespringsfordparts.com...ng-system-scat Number 8 is the housing, with two pieces and it looks like Number 6, the thermostat goes inside. So in this picture https://d354nuoz4t18d4.cloudfront.ne...?cb=1555601648, there should be another piece that goes on top of that. I've found both pieces for about $25 -$45 each, with model numbers F5RZ8592A for one piece and F5RZ8592B for the other piece (the one in the picture). According to the diagram, the housing has a new part number (HS4Z-8A586-A) that replaces F5RZ8592B with no mention of F5RZ8592A.

I don't understand any of that, but then I don't know anything about auto repairs (I wish I did).

So far it looks like the thermostat housing, thermostat (if needed), and ect sensor can be purchased new for less than $45 each. It looks like the upper and lower insulator and support bracket will have to be purchased from eBay or a junkyard. I haven't had an opportunity to look at those two parts sites that skunk posted, I'm working on that now.

                  Thanks again for the help.

I've found some parts for the European Mondeo which are practically unavailable in the states. Go to this website and fill in the information as best as you can. They were always a couple of years ahead. Select 4-door saloon, engine type and the next page breaks down practically every part and part number. I've ordered a few thanks to ekkly.com which allows searches on eBay sites in Europe.
