  • Building a 3.0 Duratec in the UK

Hello everyone I intend to build a 3.0 Duratec and fit it into a BMW Compact for rallying here in the UK

Over here the Duratec known as AJ30 is a very forgotten engine but from reading the forum it has lots of potential for horsepower and reliability

I am starting with a brand new engine from here
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-3-0...QAAOSwo3pWcHsh

My plans are to have the heads ported, do you think the valve springs, retainers etc will cope with the cam and rev limit upgrades

Use Piper JAGV6BP320 camshafts and vernier pulleys, not sure whether to retain the VVT or not perhaps you can comment
    http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams...pid=JAGV6BP320

Individual throttle bodies, my choices are 45mm, 48mm or 50mm again your comments would be appreciated

    Dry sump system Ford/Jaguar V6 3 stage
    http://www.paceproducts.co.uk/pumps-...dry-sump-kits/

    Clevite bearings
ARP Head and Main bearing studs

Forged Con Rods, not decided on make yet there is a UK company producing them but seem a little expensive
    http://www.arrowprecision.com/connec...uar-30ltr.html

Pistons are currently a bit of a problem, obviously forged with compression at 11:1, I have to use standard pump fuel so do you think 11:1 is the limit or could I go higher. I may have to have them custom made as the heads on the AJ30 differ from the US models, there are no hydraulic lifters, cams act directly onto the buckets with shims and the combustion chamber is a different shape

Do you have any recommendations for a piston supplier

Management will be DTA S 80 Pro which is capable of running sequential injection, coil on plug plus the VVT PWM signal if required
    http://www.dtafast.co.uk/S_80_PRO.htm

I would like to see 320 - 340BHP with a rev limit at 8000rpm do you think this is achievable

Please feel free to comment, criticize or advise all help appreciated

Thanks for the link gorman, have you any experience with these rods

I see that K1 rods appear popular and are reasonably priced

not yet ... these are the ones I'm going to go for. I'm rounding up all the parts for a 3.0L build of my own. If you find some head studs and crankshaft ladder block bolts .... post up a link please My build isn't showing at the bottom of my posts but I have Vortech supercharger currently on a 2.5L lump....G.

These are listed as 2.5 Duratec but I believe they are the same as 3.0

If you ask the seller he is quite happy to supply the main bearing kit

            hi
live in the uk also , completed my 3l build this time last year
campbell enterprise supplied my k1 rods, they were the cheapest , and custon set of cp pistons . cp will build piston to the cr you want
chesman in coventry dynamically balanced the complete rotating assembly and highly recommend that for a racing engine , they also supplied me a full set of king bearings
mountune supplied me all the gaskets and stretch bolts

Thanks art, who did you deal with for the pistons a company in the UK

Is yours naturally aspirated if so what compression ratio did you choose

What'e the spec of your engine, heads, cams and finally what BHP did you achieve

              Sorry for all the questions

pistons from campbell enterprises also , set cr at 10.8-1 normally aspirated . heads flowed by myself , using st200 cams and st200 manifolds which will limit the hp compared to the set up you are planning . my rev limiter is set at 7.500 but the jag engine with buckets instead of roller rockers can go to 9.000 revs
mine is making 262 hp at crank , imagine your set up with the jenveys , race cams etc, should see over 300 hp

Thanks for the reply art, if it makes 300+ BHP I will be more than pleased

I couldn't find uprated main bolts anywhere, and the stockers are absurdly priced. I've been talking to Joey at NPG about the main bolts. I've made another post about them. NPG can get the ARP 2000 main bolts. I know Joey does international orders. If you can't find the bolts anywhere else, you might give him a shout.

Next time I talk to Joey, I'll mention the virus alert.

The NPG website is not very good at all. It's very out of date. The best thing to do is contact Joey directly. He's flaky about email, but does answer the phone. It sucks having to call from the UK though, I bet.
