Okay heres the problem. My car has a nice hack job of an exhaust setup thanks to the previous owner. What I have determined, is that he bought the BAT Y-pipe kit with the high flow cat, then cut out the cat and replaced it with his own Y-Pipe with no cat. Well, now the flex pipe is leaking. To have the flex pipe cut out and a new one welded in by a shop would be $200-$400. Or I could buy another BAT Y-Pipe kit for $340 and just bolt that in myself.

Having a cat-converter back in the system would be beneficial in 2 ways as i see it... I would never have to worry about passing inspection again (we have to pass emissions in my county). Also, when I go to get a cat-back exhaust system (I'm thinking Borla), I would want to have a main cat in there because without it it would sound terrible, right?

What would you do?

Ryan,
I would find a replacement cat. You're right, both for the emissions and for the sound. If you need help, I can help you bolt the new one up.

Why would it be that much to cut a replace the flex pipe? I just got one put in for under $100, parts included. And thats one of the nice flex pipes with braid on the inside so its nice and smooth with no wistle.

no idea... thats what i was quoted.

but still, i think putting the BAT piece in would be better since i will eventually want a cat in anyways...

anyone want to buy a custom Y pipe with a leaking flex pipe? i will be selling the current piece after it comes off.

thanks, Scott... i think my dad & i should be able to handle it considering its just an unbolt & bolt up the new one - job. but i'll let you know if it does come down that we cant get it. worst cast is i'll have to drive there with an open exhaust
