The stroke of most 2.5 Duratec engines is 79.5 mm as per Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratec#Duratec_25)

The stroke of both the 2.5L & 3L Duratec is 79.5mm. Same crank design with different counter balancing.

Damn, who would have thought that wikipedia had THAT much info on a Ford engine. They even mention the Porche engineering.

Its like the new duratec series is the "new" small blocks now or something.

I find it insteresting that the 3.4L SHO V8 shares so much in common with the 2.5L V6.

Yeah but I thought it really was just two more cylinders tacked on from the duratec 2.5.

Well, sort of. The heads and intake manifolding were very different. The top end of the engine was Yamaha designed. The parts made by Ford in the US, and the engine assembled by Yamaha. It was part of the continued contract from the V6 SHO. It also had a balance shaft since it was a 60 degree V8. It also had Clevite 77 rod bearings.

It's one of those engines that in some ways was briliant, and other ways was just dumb. The broken cam problems will forever make this engine one that most knowledgable people will avoid, although there is a fix for it if caught in time.
