I remember people stating a 2 inch diameter or 2.25. What would you guys reccomend with this and why?

Of course headers are going to be on my car, within a week

2 inch is good for all around and you still retain low end power.

2.25 you still have some low end. You will feel mroe top end?

hmm, i can not decide so far what to get.

I suggest you change your options to 2.25 vs. 2.5. The stock SVT exhaust is 2.25, so 2 inch wouldnt be an upgrade at all. I think most will say 2.5 is best, especially if you plan on doing other mods like headers. Bigger than 2.5 would only be wise for T/C.

What other mods are you planning? If you are really trying to open up the engine (with headers and such) I would suggest considering 2.5. A nice, free flowing 2.25 would probably be OK for a stock duratec just looking for a nice/albeit small upgrade.

Depends on what you mean. True dual exhaust (single pipe coming from each header all the way out to the back) or a quasi-dual set-up (headers into a 2 to 1 pipe [y-pipe] to the back where it splits back into 2 pipes)

True dual answer: run 2" diameter pipes, anything else is overkill, unless MAYBE your running some extreme forced induction. But 2" is what you want.

Quasi-Dual: Go to 2.5" diameter piping. As mentioned previously, the stock svt exhaust is 2.25" and you'll want to go bigger than that. The cheapest cat-back systems out are from www.Trubendz.com

If you choose to go true duals it will be a custom setup. And of course you can have resonators or not, mufflers or not, cats or not, balance pipe or not.

If you choose to get a cat-back kit, I suggest you also get a optimized y-pipe, or a trubendz y-pipe, or something more free flowing than the stock Y (the stock Y-pipe is pretty restrictive). Also a Hi-Flow cat would be nice as well.

As far as Trubendz systems go, some people have fitment issues and have a hard time getting the tips centered, while other have no issues. Personally, I had to heat up a hanger and bend it about an inch for perfect fitment. Since you are getting headers, I would suggest picking up a resonated cat-back from them with a magnaflow muffler. Non-resonated is about $100 cheaper, but with headers and trubendz exhaust, it is LOUD. So resonators will help tone it down.

Hope this helps...

I had a brain fart last night, didnt even occur to me he meant true dual.

In the case of true dual, I agree, 2" is best. Anything else would begin to kill backpressure.

Sorry for the confusion!

2" is the way to go for a 2.5L for sure when running full true dual exhaust.

with a heavily modded 3L, it may be advisable to step to 2.25", but I've never sat and done the exhaust gas velocity calcs on that.

fwiw, I have pretty much all the stuff to build up a 2" true dual setup, about all i'm missing is a crossover. it's all for sale too . . . since I've got some different plans for my car.

Well i have been reading about demons setup. So it seems i will be probably producing the same kit he has done.

2inch is what i was thinking this whole time. Plus it is cheaper lol

I wish I knew that about 2 weeks ago...Last week I ordered rear pipes w/ resonators from Trubendz. My crap is too loud.

when you guys talk about 2" piping, do you mean 2" OD piping or ID?
