My shift tower. I had a buddy hold the cables while I tried to move the shifter. No slack in the cables. The shift tower will move forward and back and side to side where it connects to the cables. Is there a bushing or something that I need to replace inside of the tower? Or do I just buy a new one?

Pull the shift tower off the car and have a look. There is a bolt that breaks. You need to remove the remains of the old one (including the part that is loose in the trans) and replace it with a new one. Make sure that you get a properly hardened bolt.

The shift tower is hard to remove without removing the trans. Maybe someone that has done it recently can give you the details.

dont forget to grab a magnet and pull out the broken off bolt head. sometimes they just come out, you could get that lucky, like i did.

I am 99% sure that you can't pull the shift tower if the car is stuck in gear... is that true?!?! I know for a fact that the shift tower will come out if the car is in neutral though. If you have to pull your trans to get the shift tower out, or find the head of the bolt, then I would send your shift tower to Terry to get the shift tower key mod so that it won't happen again!

I am not stuck in a gear or anything. I can get it into neutral and still drive the car 100%. I dunno what is going on inside this thing. I think ill mess with it today since I dont have to work and see wtf is going on in there.
